It’s a people thing. Or in this case…

Zanzibar kids
Zanzibar kids
One of the things that I like so much about travel is the people you meet. I took this shot in the historic Stone Town on the island of Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania.

The kids were full of laughter, until they saw my camera, and then the lad in front whipped into a casual pose for the pic. Afterwards he cracked up again and play resumed.

The island is stunningly beautiful by the way. If you like white sand beaches, turquoise sea, reefs full of the most amazingly coloured fish and the smell of spices in the air (it’s known as the ‘Spice Island’ for good reason) then add it to your ‘must get to’ list.

Birgit and I planned just a couple of days there but…

I wrote about this island in Distant Suns and you’ll find out exactly why we took advantage of the motorcycle Overlanders freedom to take advantage of opportunities.

These are just some excerpts from Distant Suns to give you a taste of the journey.
